Alas, when I did get up for other reasons, I still needed my walker. But I did step forth with better confidence and a longer stride. Sigh.
After listening to the audiobook and reading the article, Buddha's Brain, I came to this conclusion:
- What we think, we do.
- What we do, we give.
- What we give, we get.
What does this have to do with learning to walk, or rewiring the brain, after a stroke? Beats me. But my intuition tells me that there is a connection here. Somehow. Somewhere.
I told this to MT (my main physical therapist at St Downtown) today and we immediately started to work. First,we did balancing exercises standing at the balancing bar, and then we took an open-space unsupported walk around the therapy area. Next, MT will speak to my other therapists to see if they can work with me next week on visualizing good balance when standing or walking without holding on to anything.
I am on my way.
