Years ago, a colleague and I had a discussion about learning curves and concluded that they had to be steep enough to overcome boredom and keep encouraging the learner, but not too steep or they would overwhelm the learner.
I find the same is true for the stroke survivor, climbing back to "as normal as he or she can be" and looking for encouragement where it can be found.
At the end of this post is the link to a video that a friend sent. For the first part of the video I felt happy for the man featured in the video, but overwhelmed when considering what this might mean for me.
Then at the end of the video, I thought, "I want to do that. Walk? I want to run, even if only ten yards!"
