"No way I am going to roll into an emergency department out of an ambulance with the "chief complaint" that my foot is asleep and I can't stand up." My sister and I were out for lunch when this happened and despite my protest, she won the argument. 911 was called. The next thing I knew I was in the local emergency department where soon the emergency physician said, "Well, here is your problem." as he handed me my cat scan. Holding the film up, I got to make my own diagnosis: a cerebral vascular accident in the form of a right cerebral hemorrhage.
And so the journey began, I became a former emergency physician AND a patient in the blink of an eye.
